2 – Preparing your PC for Android development (Optional)

NOTE: These steps are completely optional, but will make installing your project directly onto your Android device marginally easier in the future.

Now that you have the tools installed, the following steps will show you how to configure the Android SDK for use from anywhere in the command prompt.

  1. Navigate to the ‘Android-SDK‘ folder on your computer.
  2. Double-click the ‘Platform-tools‘ folder.

  3. Right-click on ‘Platform-tools‘ in the address bar and click ‘Copy Address
  4. Click the Start Menu, right-click on ‘Computer‘, click ‘Properties‘, and click ‘Advanced System Settings‘.
  5. Click ‘Environment Variables‘. Under ‘System Variables‘, click ‘Path‘, and then click ‘Edit‘.
  6. Add a semicolon to the end of the ‘Variable‘ value and paste the ‘Platform-tools‘ address
  7. Navigate back to the ‘Android-SDK‘ folder on your computer. Double-click the ‘Tools‘ folder.
  8. Right-click on ‘Tools‘ in the address bar and click ‘Copy Address‘.
  9. Add another semicolon to the end of the ‘Variable‘ value and paste the ‘Tools‘ address.
  10. Click ‘OK‘ on the open windows.

Now you can run Android developer commands from any directory in the Command Prompt.
